5 Summer Movies I’m Hyped For

Summertime is a great time to go to the movies. Sinking into one of the premium oversized seats that recline, while the warehouse-grade A/C is blasting, and fully committing yourself to the action, drama and performances happening on-screen is one of the great pleasures of summer. Here are 5 movies to see:

Alien: Romulus (August 16th) – The newest entry in the decades old survival-horror franchise takes places between Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) and James Cameron’s Aliens (1986). The cast, much younger in age than past films, wants to leave the planet they are stuck on and explore space. During their travels, they come across a derelict ship, board it, are met with all type of horrors, including facehuggers and xenomorphs, and have to survive/escape.

Longlegs (July 12th) – A woman FBI agent (Maika Monroe) is tracking a serial killer, Longlegs (Nicolas Cage). Everything is creepy and unsettling and looks absolutely terrifying. The trailer feels like a mixture of Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and David Fincher’s Zodiac (2007) and Se7en (1995), just three of my favorite movies ever. I’m eagerly awaiting this one.

Trap (August 2nd) – Josh Harnett plays a father, who’s taking his teenage daughter to a Lady Raven pop concert. Sounds tame and boring, right? Well, at some point in the show, Harnett leaves to use the bathroom and notices a bunch of heavily armed cops blocking all the exits. He proceeds to ask Jamie, a guy working the merch stand, what’s up, and is told the authorities have received a tip that the serial killer, named “The Butcher,” is going to be at the event and they have set a trap. Cut to Harnett closing a stall, whipping out his phone and checking the video feed, on his phone, of a man chained up in his basement crying. His face goes blank. He’s slightly twitchy and now bathed in red light. He’s the serial killer everyone’s been hunting! Now, will he escape the concert, and skirt justice, without his daughter finding out his terrible secret or will he be captured and brought to justice? It’s an M. Night Shyamalan’s film, so you know they’ll be a weird twist.

Cuckoo (August 9th) – A young woman (Hunter Schafer) moves to a remote mountain town with her family, takes a job at a local hotel and is mysteriously attacked.

MaXXXine (July 5th) – Set as a direct sequel to Ti West’s X (2022), the movie follows Maxine Minx in her latest pursuit of stardom and fame. It’s 1985, she’s in Hollywood, trying to break into the film industry, while the infamous Los Angeles serial killer, known as the Night Stalker, is terrorizing Tinseltown. Will Maxine survive and make her dreams come true?
