The feud between Kevin Durant-Dennis Schröder took a new twist after Schröder went on his Twitch stream and had more than a few choice words for KD after his Twitter/X post following Team USA’s gold medal victory. The German seemed genuinely upset about a lack of respect from KD and the American’s and said,
“They won and Kevin Durant tweets, ‘High IQ and entertainment.’ For me, that’s just being weak. You’re that type of a star and you have to say something to a person like me who not even meant it to be negative. It was just what I see from both sides, you know what I’m saying? I didn’t appreciate it. I don’t care, but at the end of the day, that tweet, or whatever he posted, was because of me. For me, it was never no negative stuff. I respect all of those guys, all GOATs, but to say that tells me how weak he is as a person.”

Durant made the above post in reference to Schröder, who after Germany’s loss to Serbia in the bronze medal game had a lot to say about Team USA and the differences between American and European players, leagues, coaching and style of play. He said,
“European basketball I think is the more uh I got to be careful here I think European basketball is um no entertainment it’s straight IQ basketball straight coaching um and really really high IQ guys who know how to play the game and uh I mean Serbia, Greece, Spain, France, Germany. I mean there so many teams out there who knows how to play um who is athletic and um I think it’s a lot of people in from Europe in the NBA who make um some noise Slovenia with Luka one of the best players in the world of course I mean the the USA is um one of the the best leagues in the world or is the best league in the world but um European they uh they coming for sure.”
These comments clearly made their way back to Team USA, who used it as bulletin board material and took home their 5th straight gold medal. Maintaining their dominance over the rest of the world.
Dennis Schröder is most certainly allowed to speak his mind and express his opinion. It’s just a little weird the way he went about it, basically insulting the US players and calling them entertainers, while painting the European players as true basketball players, who are more skillful, better coached and possess higher basketball IQ’s. While it’s true some of the best players in the NBA are European like Luka Dončić (Slovenia), Nikola Jokić (Serbia), Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece) and Victor Wembanyama (France) the overall amount of European players is still pretty low league-wide. If what Schröder was saying was true, then wouldn’t more Euro-based players and coaches be in the NBA? And if he was only talking about international play, the USA have won gold for 2 decades straight at the Olympics. Maybe he was trying to say the US should be wary of the European nations in the near future? Whatever point he was trying to make got lost after he started diminishing Team USA and the American players.
Dennis Schröder’s comments about KD being a “weak” person are, however, entirely out of spite and a little bit of sour grapes on his part. If KD was truly weak, he wouldn’t have posted anything and let the original comments slide. But, Durant doesn’t mind hostile interaction. In fact, after the desperate comeback against Serbia he was on Twitter/X in the early am roasting Nuggets fans who were cheering for the Serbian over the American’s. KD isn’t the man you want to get into a beef with. He goes scorched earth and doesn’t hold back. It’ll be interesting to see if KD responds or if he waits until he sees Schröder on the court.
