Almost all the flaws the Seattle Seahawks have reared their ugly head in the 33-31 road loss to the Washington Commanders. QB Sam Darnold started his first game since hurting his hip one drive into the 2026 season and passed for 379 yards and 4 TD’s. The problem being he also threw 45 times and had 2 interceptions, including a 50-yard pick-six by Kain Medrano late in the 4th quarter. The more attempts he’s asked to throw, the more chances something very wrong could happen. For the Seahawks to hit their full potential on offense new OC Brian Fleury needs to manufacture a more consistent running attack and bring back balance between the run and pass. Which brings us to first round pick RB Jadarian Price. He was drafted to come in and be the Seahawks RB1, unfortunately it’s not gone to plan as of yet. Mike Macdonald has tried to bring him in slowly, but that’s tough with Zach Charbonnet rehabbing a serious injury, and Emanuel Wilson/George Holani not providing any juice. Price has flashed some ability, but has also had ball security issues – something you never want your first round RB to exhibit. Against Washington, he had the ball punched out by LB Sonny Styles on his 3rd run of the game. Price finished the game with a paltry 15 yards on 5 carries. The only other impact moment he might’ve had was on a route out of the backfield, where he had a step on Style, but the young LB displayed tremendous athleticism and timing and broke up the pass. The Ohio State product was simply outstanding, affecting the game across all areas. Coming into the game both Julian Love and Ty Okada were set to miss out. This meant Seattle had to start a couple a backups on the back end. Hint, it did not go well. AJ Finley and Rodney Thomas II had to step in on short notice and did not meet the moment. Neither made an impact in defending the run and were beaten in coverage a handful of times too. Not to call Finley out too much, but he was very poor. The current defensive depth is nowhere close to the 2025 defensive depth. Shockingly, it was the defense that let the Seahawks down the most. After Darnold’s horrendous pick-six, Washington held a commanding 33-24 with 3:57 left in the fourth quarter. He responded well by driving Seattle right down the field and scoring a quick TD via Cooper Kupp. This meant they were only down 33-31 with 2:51 left. Mike Macdonald had 3 timeouts and the 2-minute warning to work with. The first couple of plays went perfectly for Seattle, bringing up a 3rd and 9. Backup RB Rachaad White, who ran for 35 yards on 8 carries, had his biggest run of the day when he broke free off a designed delayed handoff for 15 yards and a first down. This was back-breaking since now Macdonald would have to use up his timeouts. Again, the first couple of plays went fine and another 3rd down came up, this time 3rd and 7. Backup QB Marcus Mariota read the defense perfectly, held onto the ball during the RPO and ran 8 yards for a first down, icing the game for Washington. Simply put, Seattle lost the turnover battle, gave up 30+ points, ran for a paltry 44 yards on 18 carries and didn’t make any timely defensive stops in key situations. A recipe for disaster. Next up for the Seahawks is a home date against the winless Los Angeles Chargers.
